Weather sensors are beginning to play an ever increasing role in our lives, from highway visibility sensors to "Automated Surface Observations Stations called "ASOS" and "AWOS" for Automated Weather Observation Stations found throughout the world, monitoring weather at airports. Many of these sensors are used in conjunction with data loggers, satellites, such as "GOES" and "ORBCOMM" a low earth orbiting satellite. (unlike the GOES it is capable of bi-directional communication) Radio, telephone and cell phones are becoming more and more useful as well.
Today Hazardous Material Crews (HAZMAT) uses virtually the same equipment developed a few years ago for the U.S. Air Force for "Tactical" operations (TAMS), and special vehicles (VWOS) are fitted with sensors for weather observation and are being delivered world wide.
Because of the sheer number of sensors, systems,
and communication possibilities not all of them can be covered adequately
here, if you have particular requirements or questions please don't hesitate
to call us or e-mail us at either (425) 489-8997 or Advanced
Measurements and Controls, Inc. and we will be happy to help. The instrumentation,
sensors and systems contained within this document are many of the mo
st commonly used in the science of meteorology
today.
