Transportable
Weather Observation Station
TAMS
Although comprehensive weather information is always vital,
there are times when a full-scale weather station isn't practical. The
weather is always on the move, and sometimes you need that same mobility.
Now, there is a solution.

Transportable Automated Meteorological Station (TAMS) is
a rugged, compact system designed for rapid setup and easy operation in
the field. TAMS provides a full range of meteorological data, along with
multiple communication and power choices to match the needs of any application.
Portable Weather Monitoring
-
TAMS is the perfect solution for applications that demand both accuracy
and the ability to respond quickly to changing situations in often remote
locations:
-
Ground and air military operations support
-
Civil emergency response
-
Fire fighting
-
Hazardous material spill containment
-
Weather disaster damage control
State-Of-The-Art Design
TAMS incorporates five miniaturized weather sensors into its compact
Met Station that measure a wide array of parameters. New technology and
careful design have enabled TAMS' miniaturized sensors to achieve accuracies
comparable to standard size sensors.
TAMS sensors include:
-
wind speed and gust
-
wind direction and variable wind direction
-
relative humidity
-
temperature
-
dew point
-
atmospheric pressure
-
density altitude
-
precipitation (optional) *
-
solar radiation (optional) *
*Note: Optional sensors mount externally--they are not contained within
the Met Station
Portability
The TAMS Met Station is normally mounted to the 10' collapsible TAMS
tripod. This lightweight but rugged tripod is guyed for added stability.
It has adjustable extension legs to adjust to uneven terrain, and versatile
feet that can be staked or weighted as the situation demands. When collapsed,
it fits into a custom nylon carrying bag. When a tripod is not needed,
the Met Station can be mounted to a 1" pipe or vehicle mast.
An entire TAMS system can easily be carried by one person. The Met
Station, connecting cables, and options (such as Control/Display or Handheld
Receiver) all pack into a weathertight, padded carrying case for easy and
safe transport.
Electronic Compass
Time is often critical in TAMS applications. In those situations, the
sooner your station can be up and collecting data the better. To speed
up the installation of TAMS even more, an optional electronic compass is
available that automatically adjusts wind direction values to North, eliminating
the need to orient the TAMS in the field.
Comprehensive Weather Data
Since accurate, usable weather data is the goal of any weather station,
TAMS offers a number of ways to view and transmit data.
Control/Display
Collected data can be viewed on the Control/Display's backlighted LCD
display, which connects directly to the Met Station via an RS485 link.
The Control Display also features a comprehensive setup procedure that
allows you to customize the collection, storing, and display of weather
conditions.

Computer Interface
Data can also be output to a computer directly from the Met Station,
or by way of the Control/Display's built-in RS232 port. The data can then
be viewed using TAMSView software. TAMSView provides a graphic
interface for viewing the data, along with control options for configuring
the TAMS. When a Handheld Radio Receiver is used (see below), data can
also be output from the receiver to a computer.

Radio Output
Often the uses for which TAMS is designed require that data be transmitted
from a remote site to a central computer some distance away. In these situations,
where a hardwire cable link is insufficient, TAMS' radio options provide
the final, vital link. There are two radio options available with TAMS.
The first option provides a transceiver housed in a deluxe carrying
case, which is also designed to house a 5 amp/hour battery and battery
charger. The case is weatherproof, and so can be left on-site to collect
and transmit data unattended.
The second radio option is a Handheld Radio Receiver that incorporates
the functions of the Control/Display with a built-in radio transceiver.
It includes connectors for auxiliary power and serial output.
Internal Data Logging
The Met Station itself functions as a data logger, with an internal
memory capable of storing up to 1500 data records. The stored data can
then be transferred to a computer using a Control/Display or TamsView
software.
Flexibility and Power
Simply put, when you need flexibility, portability, and accuracy, TAMS
is unsurpassed. Because the demands of each monitoring situation vary,
TAMS is designed with universal connectors and interchangeable power and
communication options to meet those demands. In addition to the Met Station's
internal batteries and the optional 5 amp/hour battery, solar power, a
cigarette lighter adapter, and AC power adapters provide a full range of
power options.
Flexibility and power--No matter where the weather moves you, TAMS
will give you the information you need to make accurate decisions.
