Type F Water Level Recorder

  Type F Water Level Recorder
The Type F Water Level Recorder was introduced in the 1930's. It quickly became a favorite with hydrologists and technicians who appreciated its accuracy, compact size, portability and low cost. Through the years, many improvements have been made to the Type F Recorder, and its worldwide acceptance has grown. Today the Type F is the most versatile of all water level instruments and is an inexpensive, accurate recorder for general-purpose use.

Flexibility

The Type F is a labor and time-saving instrument for permanently recording the varying level of any liquid surface. Flow data may also be obtained when it is used with weirs, flumes or where water level is an index of flow. Additional non-typical uses include special magnified recording ratios for ground subsidence and earth movement studies.

Convenience

The movement of the float on fluctuating water surfaces causes the chart drum to be turned proportionally as the timer-controlled pen moves across the chart at a constant speed. The resulting graph shows the water level against a record of time. The range in stage is limited only by the length of the float line and float size, since the chart drum may make any number of revolutions. The ball-bearing mounted chart drum responds to 0.01 foot (3 mm) changes at 1:1 scale, using a 5 inch (127 mm) float. The instrument is actually sensitive to 0.002 foot (0.6 mm) and can record to that degree of accuracy with a large enough float. The cast metal base has four legs for support. A sheet metal cover, with convenient carrying handle, can easily be removed for servicing.
