The LD302 is a transmitter based on the field proven capacitive sensor that measures absolute, gage and differential pressure using digital sensing. As an intelligent device, it can perform control functions, flow totalization and drive final control elements through the bus.

The LD302 can also be configured as a FIELDBUS master station. Configuration can be accomplished through the Syscon software.

The FI302 converts a FIELDBUS signal into a 4 to 20 mA signal. The FIELDBUS signal can, for example, be a request from the bus to a frequency converter to set a conveyor speed to 3.4 ft/s. If the frequency converter does not have FIELDBUS capability, the bus signal can be converted into a conventional 4 to 20 mA by the FI302.

This instrument has three independent channels, which means that three 4 to 20 mA outputs are available.

In order to connect existing valve actuators to a FIELDBUS system, SMAR developed a FIELDBUS to pneumatic signal converter, with very low air consumption and a very stable output signal. A 0 to 100% digital signal from the FIELDBUS is converted into a 3 to 15 psi pneumatic signal according to a characteristic curve selected by the user. Besides the normal PID control function, linearization, master capability, alarms and damping, the FP302 offers signal limitation and reversing and many other features for valve actuation:

  • Output signal: 3 to 15 psi
  • Supply pressure: 20 psi
  • Air consumption: 0.15 scfm (20 psi supply pressure)
  • The built-in volume booster allows high air capacity (4 SCFM)
  • Vibrating resistant

The FY302 is from the first generation of Fieldbus devices. It is a control positioner for pneumatic valve in a Fieldbus system. The FY302 produces a pressure output as required to position a control valve according to an input received over the Fieldbus network or internal controller. The Fieldbus technology used in the FY302 enables an easy interface between the field and the control room and several interesting features that considerably reduce the installation, operation and maintenance costs.

The FY302 is part of Smar's complete 302 series Fieldbus devices.

PCI
Process Control Interface

The PCI card can be plugged directly into the internal 16-bit ISA bus of an industrial or conventional PC, enabling supervisory software to easily access all FIELDBUS data acquired by the four channels.

POWERFUL ARCHITECTURE

The board has the size of 3/4 PC AT card and it allows for hot insertion or extraction when installed in an industrial computer. Four SMAR modems, a 32 MIPS superscalar RISC CPU with dual port memory and a 32-bit architecture guarantee outstanding performance and data integrity.

ADVANCED PROCESS CONTROL CAPABILITY

High processing power and access to multiple FIELDBUS channels make PCI ideal to handle complex control and mathematical functions.

FIELDBUS MASTER DEVICE

The PCI can work as a bus master for all four FIELDBUS channels.

DATA ACQUISITION

A simple DLL (Dynamically Linked Library) called PHAL (PCI/BC1 Hardware Abstraction Layer) interfacesWINDOWS™ applications such as supervisory systems, configurators, etc to the PCI hardware and software. This DLL guarantees complete FIELDBUS hardware and software transparency.

FLEXIBLE PROGRAMMING

The PCI executable program remains in RAM. It has object oriented programming and the configuration and exec programs can be downloaded very easily. With its open protocol, it can be used with virtually any WINDOWS™ or DOS™ applications. It is the ideal tool for plant operation and supervisory software.

SB302
Isolated Safety Barriers

The SB302 safety barrier provides intrinsically safe power for field instruments. Since it works as a repeater, the FIELDBUS signal can be freely used on the safe side of the barrier. Galvanic isolation of the signal relaxes grounding requirements and all the other special care required when a good barrier ground is necessary. The barrier contains bus terminators and complies with the most rigorous Intrinsic Safety standards.

PSI302 Fieldbus Power Supply Impedance

The Fieldbus Power Supply Impedance is a non-isolated, active impedance control device, fundamental for the implementation of a Fieldbus network in accordance with Standard IEC 1158-2. This device presents an output impedance which, in parallel with the two bus terminators, (a 100 ohm resistor in series with a 1 uF capacitor) required by the standard, results in a purely resistive line impedance for a broad frequency range. The purely resistive line impedance prevents unwanted oscillation and distortion of the communication signal caused by signal variation (ringing effect).

The PSI302, because of the power supplied, cannot be used directly in areas requiring intrinsic safety specifications. In this case, it becomes necessary to use an intrinsic safety barrier to separate the safe area and the dangerous area.

PS302 Fieldbus Power Supply

The PS302 is a switched power supply unit (non-intrinsically safe) with universal input (90 to 260 Vac, 47 to 440 Hz or a DC equivalent) and a fixed output voltage (24 Vdc) which, coupled to a PSI (power supply impedance) is apropriate to feed Fieldbus elements. Isolated, with short-circuit and overcurrent protection, ripple and fault indication, it is apropriate to feed Fieldbus elements.

Software
SYSCON
Fieldbus System Configurator

The SYSCON is a powerful and user friendly software tool to configure, maintain and operate a FIELDBUS based system through a PC. The WINDOWS™ graphic user interface is so easy to use that no previousknowledge of computers is required. The computer can communicate with a FIELDBUS network via a BC1, a PCI or any other suitable interface. The software includes the functions:

SYSTEM AND DEVICE CONFIGURATION

With this function it is possible to communicate with all devices in the network, assign tags, configure the control strategy, adjust parameters and download a configuration.

SYSTEM MAINTENANCE

This function communicates with all field instruments, and accesses information about instrument manufacturer, materials of construction, ranges, etc. It also allows for transducer calibration and controller tuning. The on-line diagnostic report is a very powerful tool for plant reliability. Complete maintenance reports are issued according to the user's configuration. Alarm and events reports are issued on line.

SYSTEM OPERATION

The user can have indication of variables, historical trends, alarm logs, etc. They can also change parameters and settings or send commands. It is the ideal tool for plant commissioning!

CONF700 Configurator for the LC700
