Turbine Flowmeters

Exact Flow turbine flowmeters represent the most advanced turbine flowmeter technology available today.  Both the Single Rotor and the Dual Rotor series offer the same rugged construction, quality, and repeatability. They are both ideally suited for process applications where a high degree of accuracy in flow measurements is required over a wide operating range.

Single Rotor Turbine Flowmeter

The single rotor design is optimized for high accuracy in clean liquids up to 100 centistokes.  It has superior absolute accuracy of + 0.12%, and up to 150:1 turndown.  The flowmeter has Bi-directional flow and a wide range of liquids. 3,000 PSIG is standard, although up to 10,000 PSIG is optional.  It has non intrusive pick-ups and only two moving parts.  NIST traceable flow calibrations.

Dual Rotor Turbine Flowmeter

The patented dual rotor design eliminates many of the problems associated with traditional single rotor designs.  The hydraulic coupling of the two rotors reduces the fall-off of the meter's output frequency at low flow rates.  Additionally, swirl at the meter inlet, which would cause a significant inaccuracy in a single rotor meter, is largely canceled by summing the counter rotating rotors' signals.  When using dual pick-ups, diagnostic checking of the frequency ratio between the two can be used to determine the mechanical condition and changes in the accuracy of the flowmeter.  The superior absolute accuracy of + 0.1% is traceable to NIST Flow Calibrations.

Dual Rotor turbine

1.) Unconditioned flow enters flowmeter.

2.) Straightening vanes smooth the flow as it enters the first rotor.

3.) Flow transfers momentum to the first rotor making it spin counterclockwise.  Flow the exits rotor with a clockwise spin.

4.) Flow enters the second rotor with a nearly perpendicular angle of attack thereby transferring additional momentum to the second rotor. This additional momentum results in greatly extended turndown.

5.) Flow exits flowmeter.

6.) A pick-up transmits the rotor frequency signal to remote instrumentation.  Optional dual pick-ups transmit signals from both rotors- the sum of which is a constant for any given flow rate.  This provides powerful diagnostics and swirl intensitiity.  In addition, the dual rotor effect increases the turndown ratio by 10X that of a standard single rotor turbine meter.
